Literary Analysis
The basic story that the reader needs to know the background of Dill's father, mother and how Dill is so effected by his father's actions. However, it is realistic because when an older figure in your family does something that gives the general public how they will view you. Before the story begins the reader is constantly reminded that Pastor Dillard Early (Dill's father) had inappropriate pictures of under aged children. The reader is being beaten senseless due to Dill also being beaten of how it's effecting him and those around him. In a way it seems like the author wanted the reader to be in Dill's shoes a tiny bit by reminded them about what happened constantly. It's not just Dill that's being effected but also his mother and friends. Dill's Mother, Crystal, is struggling to support her and her son since Dillard Early was put in jail for his corrupted mind. So much so that she'd rather have her son drop out of high school and get a job to help with bills, food, and such. Dill's friends Travis and Lydia are as loyal as can be even though they'll be harassed just for being friends with the sick pastor's son.
Like I said earlier the entire plot is the fact the reader is being beaten over the head with how crappy Dill's life has been since his father did what he did. Although that was happening the author was also hinting at that we shouldn't let the past corrupt us in the way it has for Dill. Yes, no doubt it sucks but it happened and there's nothing that can happen. Yes people will be childish and think his father's actions define who Dill as a person it shouldn't. It's been proven that there's no two minds that think exactly alike and any mother with two or more children can back that statement up.
